Sri Lanka national cricket team spinner Maheesh Theekshana has taken a massive step forward in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers. This comes after his sensational performances with the ball in the series against the New Zealand national cricket team.
Maheesh Theekshana moved into the top three of the ICC men's one-day rankings for the first time. The spinner was at his best with the ball against the New Zealand national cricket team. He picked 7 wickets in the two games and put his team on top.
Maheesh Theekshana climbs to 663 rating points, reaches career high in ODI cricket
Theekshana picked four wickets in the first ODI which also included a hat-trick. The Sri Lankan national cricket team spinner returned with figures of 4/44 in the first ODI. In the second game, he picked three wickets but unfortunately couldn't help his team win as they lost the series 2-1.
Maheesh Theekshana has climbed to 663 rating points and now enjoys a career high in the latest ICC rankings. Sri Lanka National Cricket Team is now six points behind leader Rashid Khan (669) and two behind India's Kuldeep Yadav (665), the top two in the world.
Maheesh Theekshana also becomes the 26th ranked ODI all-rounder, moving up four places to reach the 26th position.
Maheesh Theekshana also moved up four places in the All-Rounder rankings after his contributions with the bat. The spinner has moved up four places to 26. Mohammad Nabi (300) remains at the top spot ahead of Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza (290).
Apart from Maheesh Theekshana, New Zealand national cricket team skipper Matt Herny has also won the ICC bowlers rankings in ODIs. The fast bowler took nine wickets at an average of 10.33. He moved up three places to tie for ninth place with 635 rating points.
New Zealand national cricket team captain Mitchell Santner has also made an ascent. He moved up two places to 15th. This comes after coming in with decent performances. Asitha Fernando moved up 34 places to equal 97 after taking 3-26 from seven overs.
Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli remain top of ICC ODI batsmen rankings
In terms of ICC batting rankings for ODIs, there has not been much change. Pakistan batsman Babar Azam with 795 runs remains at the top followed by Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma who is at number 2 with 765 runs. Shubman Gill (763) and Virat Kohli (746) are third and fourth respectively. All have an opportunity to improve their effort as the ODI series for Pakistan and India is around the corner, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka (622) scored just four runs in New Zealand, including two wickets, leading to a five-place slide in the rankings to No. 18. Other than that, there was no change in the rankings ICC ODIs.
