John Marquis' brace helped Shrewsbury to a shock 2-1 win over cross-border rivals Wrexham at the Croud Meadow.
The veteran striker struck in the 17th and 48th minutes – netting the second after saving a penalty – to secure victory for the Shrews after Wrexham equalized through Steven Fletcher.
Victory for Shrewsbury lifts them to 21st in League One, five points off safety, while third-placed Wrexham missed out on a chance to go top.
The hosts broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike from Marquis from just outside the box, but Fletcher equalized six minutes later when he headed Ryan Barnett's cross at the back post.
Shrewsbury had a chance to regain the lead just before half-time when Mal Benning played a cross to George Lloyd at the near post, but the latter shot wide.
Wrexham also went close a few minutes later when Ollie Rathbone's header went wide.
Shrewsbury went back in front after winning a penalty three minutes into the second half when Lloyd was brought down by Eoghan O'Connell.
Marquis saw Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo avoid his kick but the striker managed to clear the rebound.
Wrexham came close to equalizing late on when Paul Mullin's close-range shot was cleared off the line by Toto Nsial.
Marquis almost completed his hat-trick in stoppage time but fired wide.
