Sydney Sixers cricketer Steve Smith continued his impressive boundary saving streak with an outstanding effort during the BBL 2024-25 match against Sydney Thunder. Steve Smith made an acrobatic save near the boundary line at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Friday 17 January.
Steve Smith leads the Sydney Sixers in a crucial Sydney Smash clash against the Sydney Thunder, led by veteran opener David Warner. This match could shake up the top three standings in BBL 2024-25. However, play was postponed due to heavy rain after just five overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Sydney Sixers win Bat Flip and opt for Field
The Sydney Sixers won the toss and elected to bowl, with Warner and new Australian star Sam Konstas opening for the Thunder. Jack Edwards opened with a maiden over but Warner quickly hit a boundary before rain interrupted play after 1.4 overs.
The match resumed under revised conditions with 19 overs per team. Konstas managed to score 9 off 14 balls, including two fours, before being run out by Edwards.

The incident happened on the first ball of the 5th over when David Warner tried to trouble the bowler Todd Murphy. Warner stepped out and lifted the ball towards long-off. Steve Smith produced a stunning effort to save a six.
Smith threw the ball back downfield before going out and returning to complete the catch. With no one around to help them, the former Australian captain rescued four points for his side with his outstanding effort.

Steve Smith has been the standout Test star in Australia's T20 competition this season. He started strongly with a remarkable century against the Scorchers in his first match, followed by a 50 in his second appearance leading to a win over the Strikers.
