BBL|14: Jake Fraser-McGurk blitz keeps Melbourne Renegades’ hopes alive, knocks out Brisbane Heat



Melbourne Renegades kept their championship hopes alive with a thrilling three-wicket victory Brisbane heat at Docklands Stadium in Match 38 of Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. Jake Fraser-McGurk's scintillating 95 off 46 balls proved to be the match winner as the Renegades chased down a target of 197 with two overs to spare, knocking Brisbane Heat out of the competition.

Brisbane Heat Innings

The Heat posted an alarming 196/4 after being sent in to bat. The innings was powered by contributions from Jack Wood (45 off 27) and Tom Alsop (42 off 26), both showing their ability to clear the ropes. Matt Renshaw chipped in with a quick 40 from 22, while Nathan McSweeney set the order high with 29 runs. The late Max Bryant (12 from 5) added some crucial runs.

For the Renegades, Adam Zampa (4-0-29-2) and Callum Stow (4-0-31-2) stood out with the ball, delivering big hits to get the goal.

Melbourne Renegades Innings

The Renegades started their chase aggressively, with Josh Brown smashing 32 off 11 balls to get the team off to a flying start. However, it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who stole the show with an impressive 95, featuring four fours and eight big fours. His knock put the Renegades in control despite a large number of wickets at the other end.

Low contributions from Fergus O'Neill (16 from 6) and Thomas Stewart Rogers (2 from 2) helped The gangsters have crossed the finish line with 12 balls left.

For Brisbane Heat, Paul Walter (4-0-23-2) was the top bowler, while Spencer Johnson and Michael Neser picked up two wickets each but struggled to contain the Renegades' onslaught.

Results

The Renegades won by three wickets, earning two important points. With this victory, Will Sutherland's side will remain in the finals, as the Heat's journey in the BBL 2024-25 ends.
