In a do-or-die meeting at Perth Stadium, Perth Scorchers he won Adelaide Strikerstaking fourth place on the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 points table.
Adelaide Strikers stumbled after a good start
Batting first, Adelaide Strikers scored 161 runs before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. Perth Scorchers chase with calmness
Chasing a target of 162, the Perth Scorchers showed calmness and depth in their batting. Contributions from Sam Fanning (29 off 20) and Aaron Hardie (28 off 17) laid the foundation for the chase. However, Cooper Connolly produced 39 off 21 balls, including four sixes, which led to the Scorchers' turnaround.
Adelaide's bowlers struggled to score, with D'Arcy Short emerging as the best performer, taking 2/37 in 3.2 overs. Brendan Doggett also took a wicket but lacked enough support Perth completed the chase in just 16.2 overs.
Results
The win not only strengthened Perth's playoff aspirations but also ended the hopes of the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades in the competition. The Scorchers are now awaiting the result of the Melbourne Stars against the Hobart Hurricanes. If the Hurricanes win, they will go to the final otherwise the Scorchers will be knocked out.
