Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United's current squad could be the worst in the club's illustrious 147-year history.
Amorim was left scratching his head once again as United fell to a 3-1 loss at home against a strange Brighton & Hove Albion side, just days after Amad Diallo had saved embarrassment against Southampton with a late hat-trick at Old Trafford.
Goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter thanks to a terrible mistake by Andre Onanacondemned United to a sixth home defeat of the season and Amorim made his feelings clear about the standard of players at his disposal when he addressed the media after the game.
“In ten games in Premier LeagueWe won two,” he said. “I know that. Imagine what this is like for a Manchester United fan. Imagine what this is for me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of this.
“I'm not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we have to survive this moment. I'm not naive. We have to survive now.
“We are probably the worst team in history Manchester United. I know you want the headlines, but I'm saying this because we have to accept it and change it. Here you go: your headlines.”
“It's hard to explain,” he continued: “We have to accept the moment and not ignore the problem. Everyone here is underperforming, regardless of the circumstances. We're underperforming and we have to accept that.
“It's unacceptable to lose so many games for any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it's a really difficult moment, but we have to go on, we have to go on, there's no other way. We must suffer and continue.
“Our players are really nervous and worried. When you go on the last pitch, you remember the last games here, if I feel it, the players feel it a lot. The only way is to keep doing the same thing and win games. “
Amorim was expected to quickly turn things around at United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag in October, but the former Sporting CP boss has won just five of his 15 games in all competitions, losing seven.
