Barcelona and Real Madrid both drew away legs for next month's Copa del Rey quarter-finals, with the Catalan giants against relegation-fighting Valencia, while their Clasico rivals make the short trip across the Spanish capital to Leganes.

Both Spanish giants scored five goals in their round of 16 victories, but they enjoyed and endured starkly contrasting performances. While Barcelona convincingly beat Real Betis 5-1, Madrid were forced into extra time by Celta Vigo and needed a late brace from Endrick to eventually secure a 5-2 win.

Atletico Madrid passed Elçe and are paired with city rivals Getafe in the neighborhood.

There is no time to waste for the Spanish federation when it comes to the Copa del Rey. The quarter-finals are set to take place during the first mid-week of February, with matches spread across the 4th, 5th and 6th.

These fixtures come just a week after the final round of league stage fixtures at New-fangled Champions League form.

Barcelona are only guaranteed a place in the last 16 of the competition, while Atletico are well-positioned to progress to the knockout stages. Real MadridBy comparison, they have a lot of work to do to ensure they are still in Europe's premier club competition by the time the Copa del Rey quarter-finals roll around.
