Tonight's tag team fight between Serhii Bohachuk and Ishmael Davis has a great chance to steal the show from the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 rematch in the main event at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Bohachuk-Davis: Steal the show?
Former WBC interim junior middleweight champion Bohachuk (24-2, 23 KOs) was involved in the fight of the year in what many believe is his final contest against Vergil Ortiz Jr. on August 10th. Bohačuk knows only one way to fight: non-stop attack. In contrast, the Fury-Usyk 2 headliner could end up like a chess match and without the drama.
In order to keep the ticket, Bohachuk and Davis will need to generate excitement among the fans who book the event live on DAZN PPV. The undercard is absolutely terrible, and this IS the only good fight except for the main event. That one might not be great if Fury fights like a bear and Usyk boxes. Bohachuk-Davis will be a real fight and almost guaranteed to be a knockout.
Davis upset Bohachuk?
Ishmael Davis (13-1, 6 KO) will fight more aggressively, knowing that this is a great chance for him to stay on Turki Alalshikh's card. He knows that if he wins this match against Bohachuk, he will get another nice payday.
Bohachuk vs. Davis is a WBC 154 lb title eliminator. The winner will be bound for champion Sebastian Fundora. However, he is unlikely to fight the WBC belt holder as Fundora is expected to fight Errol Spence Jr. in early 2025, and he could face interim champion Vergil Ortiz Jr.
However, whoever emerges victorious in tonight's fight between Bohachuk and Davis will ultimately get a shot at a world title, either in 2025 or 2026.
“I have a feeling that this one will start from the first round. Bohachuk will pick up where he left off when he fought Vergil Ortiz (August 10). That might have been the fight of the year. That was fantastic,” Ade Oladipo told DAZN boxingtalking about Serhii Bohachuk at the weigh-in for his fight this Saturday night against Ishmael Davis.
Bohachuk will make Ishmael fight more aggressively than usual as he will be knocked out throughout the fight. Davis uses a three-step drop after throwing punches or when someone is chasing him, but that approach won't work against Bohachuk as he will cut off the ring, forcing him to scramble.
The normal dive and clinch that Davis uses won't work well if he tries that tactic tonight because Bohachuk is good at hitting opponents when they try to grab him. He is also good at fighting while being held. Davis may not last long if he chooses a different strategy in this fight. Again, this is an important fight for Davis, and he has to give it his all if he wants to win. He won't win by outboxing Bohachuk. That's what he said he would try.
Bohachuk favored
“It's still a WBC final eliminator. This is one of the easier choices. Many thought that Bohachuk beat Vergil Ortiz. I love Bohachuk in this fight,” said Dan Rafael for BetUs. “He has 24 victories, 23 of them by knockout. The only guy who went far with him was Vergil Ortiz.
“He has a knockout loss a few years ago (to Brandon Adams on March 4, 2021). Bohachuk wins this fight. I think he knocks out his opponent (Davis). I think he wins. I think he will show his stuff and put himself in a position to fight for the title.
“While I give Ishmael a lot of credit for taking this fight on short notice and being well rewarded for it, I love Bohachuk in this fight.”
Davis was fortunate to not only get the fight after a 12-round split decision loss to Josh Kelly on September 21st, but also fought in a WBC 154lb title eliminator. If he manages to win this fight, he will fight for the world title and receive a seven-figure salary.
“Ishmael Davis took this fight on very short notice. I think it's 10 days, if that. He is a British level fighter. He has one loss. He is not a big hitter. There are no big wins or middling wins on his record. I'm not saying he's not good, but he's never done it before. “He doesn't have a lot of pinching power, and he takes the fight in short order,” said Rafael.
