Man City announce the £29.4m signing of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras

Manchester City has confirmed this MEMORANDUM of Palmeiras centre-back Vitor Reis.

Reis, 19, has attracted interest from some of Europe's elite sides but City moved aggressively at the start of the transfer window to make the Brazilian a key part of their defensive overhaul.

International of Uzbekistan Abdukodir Khusanov recently completed a £33.6m transfer from Lens and Reis has now followed him out the door for a reported £29.4m.

“I am excited to join Manchester Cityone of the biggest clubs in the world,” he told the club's media. “Everyone has seen the amazing achievements in recent seasons, and I want to leave my mark as we look for more trophies.

“Working with Pep Guardiola is something every young player wants to do and I know he can help me become the best player I can be.

“City also have a lot of experience in working with Brazilian footballers and joining the likes of Ederson and Savinho in the squad will be a big help for me.”

Director of football Txiki Begiristain added: “Vitor Reis is one of the most promising young defenders in the world and we are delighted to be able to bring him here.

“In his short time in senior football in Brazil, he has shown that he has the ability to go far in the game and we know that working with Pep and our coaches will help to get the best out of him . He is excellent on the ball and outstanding in the air – he has all the attributes needed to be one of the best.

“Vitor is very young, but his quality is so high that we believe he can help us now and for a long time in the future.”
