Manchester United are fourth in the Europa League standings with just one 'league stage' game left to play after beating Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Rangers looked to have grabbed a late point to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds when Cyriel Dessers canceled out an earlier own goal from former United goalkeeper Jack Butland. But Bruno Fernandes came up with a 'captain's goal' even later in the 92nd minute to win it.
It was a much-needed tonic for Ruben Amorim and his side after Sunday's painful Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, but effectively a fourth straight win in Europe.
United's fate ahead of the matchday eight trip to Romania's FCSB rests firmly in their own hands, hoping to stay in the top eight and skip the play-off round straight into the last 16. Rangers can be more or less assured of progression too, but the top eight is likely to be beyond them.
