Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was unfazed by Ruben Amorim's claim that his side could be the worst in the club's 147-year history, a report claims.
The head coach of the Red Devils gave this hyperbolic outburst last week after seeing his side slump to a 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. Amorimi was so enraged by the slow performance that he reportedly broke a monitor during the locker room meltdown after the game.
After dusting himself off, Amorim told the assembled media: “In ten games in the Premier League, we won two. I know that. Imagine what that is for a Manchester United fan. Imagine what that is for me. We are we get a new coach who is losing more than the last coach”.
“We are probably the worst team in history Manchester United“, concluded Amorimi.
Ratcliffe has “no qualms” about these dramatic statements according to The Guardian. United's minority shareholder, who controls the club's sporting arm, is not thought to fear that the players could turn on their manager after such a harsh public blow.
Amorim driven back in his comments this week, clarifying that he was criticizing his influence and not the players.
Whoever is to blame, United must somehow inspire a dramatic turnaround in form if they are to get anywhere close to qualifying for next season's European competition. The Red Devils are assured of a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League, but start this weekend's round. Premier League matches fell to 13th place. They boast a -5 goal difference and have scored just 27 times in 22 games – less than Wolverhampton Wanderers in 17th place.
Amorim's unwanted history makers are back in action on Sunday when they face off against a Fulham the team that is seven points better.
