Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's 6-3 win against Tottenham was a “championship performance” and a statement for all the other Premier League title contenders.
Following Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Everton earlier on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool opened up a four-point gap on Enzo Maresca's side and will now go top ahead of Christmas.
Carragher has since labeled the win as a “statement” to the other clubs in the title race after a dominant display away from home.
“It felt like a really big game,” Carragher said Great week.
“Liverpool have been outstanding and if you look at the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal, you think, 'this team is going to slow down'.
“It felt like a statement win – a performance by the champions elect. They were so dominant.”
Carra: Slott was desperate for Tottenham to play that way
The former Liverpool defender went on to discuss Arne Slott's pre-match comments about Tottenham and their style of play, praising Ange Postecoglou's “excellent” job and dismissing claims that his style is “too attacking”.
“People thought he was defending Postecoglou, I don't believe that,” Carragher continued.
“He was desperate for Tottenham to play the same way. It was obvious. Liverpool could have scored 10!
“It was complete dominance from the first to the 36th minute. Today could have been anything.
“The result flatters Tottenham, it could have been a lot worse. Tottenham were absolutely beaten.”
Alexander-Arnold warned against Madrid's move
It was Trent Alexander-Arnold's incisive pass to Luis Diaz that sparked the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Carragher ended by discussing the England international's future, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Carragher has advised against the move, stating it could tarnish his legacy as a homegrown talent.
He said: “It's more than a football decision. It's about his legacy at Liverpool and how he's seen. Do you want to be seen as (Steven) Gerrard or (Steve) McManaman?”
“He went to Real Madrid and won trophies, but he was not adored.
“As a local player, Trent has been here for 20 years. I don't think it would be nice to feel like you're leaving freely. I guarantee Liverpool fans will feel that way.
“As a local player, things are expected of you. I think it's difficult to leave Liverpool as a local player.
“I wanted to leave in the right way so they remembered me in the right way.
“If he stays, he will be remembered as one of the best to play for the club and not far behind Gerrard.”
