On September 8, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the Superbowl LIX halftime show on February 9, 2025 at Caesars Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation made a statement that was met with mixed reactions.

One of them was picking K-Dot to perform in Lil Wayne's hometown. In response, Weezy recently sat down with Skip Bayles and claimed that he shared a phone conversation with Kendrick and that they're on good terms.

He explained that Not like us The singer had no “control” over the choice and didn't hold him accountable for his disappointment.

“He didn't let me down, he wouldn't be able to control it… It actually shows that he… you know a heart… and he actually cares,” Wayne said.

Weezy also said that he's a “fan” of K-Dot, just like K-Dot is like him.

“He saw like everybody else, he saw how much it meant to me. I think that's all he wanted to say… He made it there… His hard work is the reason he got there,” Wayne added.

The Young Money Entertainment founder also mentioned that he heard the song's lyrics wall paintings (from the latest surprise album, GNX) “first time” from the host, and Kendrick Lamar understood what he meant by that.

However, he also made it clear that he won't be in the country during the Superbowl, so there was no chance of a last-second appearance during the halftime show with K-Dot on stage. Weezy also mentioned that he wants to get to the point where he'll be “undeniable” the next time such an opportunity arises.

Lil Wayne's latest comments come less than a month after he went to X and wrote on Nov. 23:

“Man, what am I doing?! I'm just chill and still head down. Let's not take goodness as weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg you all. No one wants to be destroyed, not even me, if I bother I will destroy. On me. Love.”

Earlier, on September 14th, Weezy took to Instagram and shared how it didn't count Superbowl “it hurt a lot.”

“I thought there was nothing better on that stage, on that platform. It broke me, but I'm just trying to pick myself up,” he shared, reiterating his desire to play a halftime show several times over the years.

Besides mentioning Lil Wayne in his song, Kendrick Lamar has not yet addressed the issue. The duo previously collaborated on the 2018 track from the past. Mona Lisa.

Notably, in a 2022 interview with The Coveteur, K-Dot called Lil Wayne “the greatest” not just for his “music” but for his “huge” influence on hip-hop “culture.” While Kendrick said he's always held Weezy in “respect,” the latter returned the compliment by calling K-Dot “the real deal” on X.
