Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted he was “frustrated” to see Bruno Fernandes sent off. Thursday's 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The United captain was shown his second yellow card just two minutes into the second half, completely changing the course of the game as goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan handed the Red Devils another crushing defeat.
It was Fernandes' third red card of the season following dismissals against Tottenham Hotspur and Porto, the first of which was later overturned on appeal. Not since Nemanja Vidic in 2008/09 has one united the player has seen red the most times in a single season.
While Amorim admitted his anger at Fernandes' early departure from the game, he refused to be too critical of the midfielder for what he felt was simply a mistake.
I will always be frustrated with a red card, but it can happen,” Amorim told the media.
“He wanted to go for the ball. It's not like he wanted to stop a play with the yellow — he wants to go to the ball. The other guy touched the ball first and had contact. That's tough for him. , too.”
