Jasprit Bumrah delivers worst ever spell in MCG Test, hits career high

Indian national cricket team pacer Jasprit Bumrah has achieved an unwanted feat on his behalf in Test cricket. The first fast bowler recorded his most expensive figures in an innings in the longest format of the game after returning with figures of 4/99 against the Australian national cricket team.

Jasprit Bumrah pulled off the unwanted performance during the second day of the ongoing fourth Test against the Australian national cricket team. The Boxing Day Test between the teams takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.

Bumrah, who was the best bowler in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was not at his best with the ball in the Melbourne game. The fast bowler lost his pace early after Australia national cricket team batsman Sam Konstas took him to the cleaners on debut.

Sam Konstas slammed Bumrah all over the park as he bowled reverse against him and also attacked him. The Australian national cricket team debutant also hit two sixes against the Indian national cricket team's top pacer and this saw the fast bowler hit an all-time low.

This was the first time in 4562 deliveries that Bumrah had conceded a six in Test cricket. In the ongoing game, the fast bowler smashed four maximums in the first innings. Sam Konstas hit two against the pacer, joining Jos Buttler as the only second batsman to hit more sixes off Bumrah in Test cricket.

Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc also hit Bumrah for a maximum each. This marked only the second time Bumrah had conceded more than six in an innings (after England's first innings in 2018 at the Oval) and the first time he had been smashed for a maximum of three or more.

For the first time in his career, Jasprit Bumrah conceded more than 90 runs in an innings in his Test career.

Bumrah gave away 99 runs in his spell which saw him bowl 28.4 overs. He also picked four wickets during his spell. But this saw the pacer concede more than 90 runs in an innings in his Test career for the first time.
