As he continues to watch the scene and lurk in the background, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs once again issued a public challenge and put the “Duck” tag on undefeated IBF World Welterweight Champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
Cobbs is a light heavyweight contender who is better known for his quirky personality than his accomplishments inside the box. However, Cobbs is a seasoned veteran looking for a chance to take part in a fight that could redefine his boxing career.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs began his boxing journey posting a 15-fight winning streak. Back in March 2022, Cobbs lost his unblemished record when he was stopped by Alexis Rocha in the 9th round.
Five months later, Cobbs would bounce back in style when he faced former WBO welterweight champion Maurice Hooker. In the first round, Cobbs landed a big overhand right followed by a flurry of punches that sent Hooker to the canvas.
Hooker was able to get up, but Cobbs scored two additional knockdowns in the second round. Cobbs was in complete control of the bout from start to finish as he cruised to a unanimous decision victory of 97-90, 97-90 and 96-91.
After Blair Cobbs put on a very impressive performance, Golden Boy Promotions dropped the ball, because they ignored Cobbs' activity. Blair “The Flair” will split from Golden Boy and take on the former four division champion.
During the build-up to his fight against Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Blair Cobbs was comical, confident, intense and focused. At the end of the last Broner vs Cobbs press conference, Blair Cobbs exclaimed, “This is my time! This is my time! Woof!”
During fight night, Cobbs made an immediate statement when he hit Broner with a straight left hand that knocked Broner's tooth out and sent the former four-division champion to the canvas. Broner was able to get to his feet, but Cobbs dominated the rest of the fight and earned the victory by unanimous decision.
Since his win over Broner, Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has put his fellow Philadelphian on his radar. After witnessing Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs) defeat Karen Chukhadjian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Cobbs entered the post-fight press conference and stated why Ennis should fight him next.
“We know the two options you want to choose, but there's still a third option,” Cobbs said. “That third option is the most exciting man in boxing, Blair “The Flair” taking on Jaron “Boots” Ennis in a big hit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, woo!”
Promoter Eddie Hearn quickly intervened as he talked about a plan for Ennis to unify at 147 or fight a big name at 154. As time went on, the unification opportunity never materialized, and recently Ennis turned down the opportunity to face Vergil Ortiz at 154.
Because of the way things have gone for Jaron Ennis, his hometown rival is back on the scene, lobbying for a chance to fight for the IBF welterweight title. During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Blair “The Flair” pleaded his case.
“You say, I want to move to 154, and then someone calls your bluff at 154, and then you quickly change your mind and say I want to stay at 147, and you can't unify those titles because everyone is fighting.”
Blair Cobbs went on to say, “Why don't we put on a Blair “The Flair” fight, where we can have a big attraction, a big excitement in the sport of light heavyweight boxing with two Philadelphia fighters? I have no idea what they do other than bend over.
34-year-old Blair Cobbs believes that 27-year-old Jaron Ennis is a duck looking for an easy way to success. Currently, Jaron Ennis does not have a fight lined up, and until he finds an opponent, Blair Cobbs plans to keep the pressure on and try to secure that elusive title shot.
