Tottenham vs Man Utd – Carabao Cup: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Tottenham Hotspur face a visit from Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.

Spurs ended their five-match winless run at the weekend hit Southampton on the south coast and now they turn their attention to silver hunting. Ange Postecoglou has stated that he “You always win things” in his second season at one club and that record will be put to the test this season.

The EFL Cup marks the last trophy Tottenham won in 2007/08, where they also faced opponents Manchester in the last eight before overcoming Arsenal and Chelsea to win the title.

Man Utd have won 13 major trophies since Spurs' last EFL Cup triumph, including this competition during the 2022/23 season. They beat Newcastle United in the final to lift their first piece of silverware under recently sacked manager Erik ten Hag.

Reuben Amorim's first month in the job has been far from plain sailing, but his short reign culminated at the weekend. The Red Devils produced a stunning comeback win at the Etihad Stadium to beat local rivals Manchester City, with Amad Diallo inspiring Man Utd to a surprise late win.

Here it is 90 minutes guide to a happy last eight meeting in Carabao Cup.

TottenhamHis defense has been ravaged by injuries this season and Destiny Udogie is the latest concern after he was withdrawn in the first half of the weekend's win at St Mary's Stadium. However, Postecoglou has confirmed that the Italian has a chance to appear on Thursday evening.

Considering that Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies and Cristian Romero are all sidelined at the moment, Postecoglou could use some positive news regarding Udogie, with options at the backline scarce.

Further down the field, Rodrigo Bentancur is still missing due to suspensionwhile Richarlison, Mikey Moore and Wilson Odobert are all unavailable as Spurs' squad becomes ever more stretched.

Tottenham predicted formation against Man Utd (4-2-3-1): Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Sarr; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Solanke.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were notable omissions from the matchday squad against Man City and the former has admitted his desire for a “new challenge” as he approaches a move away in the January transfer window. With Man Utd also investigating 'leaks' within the dressing roomit will be interesting to see if any turn up in north london.

Both Mason Mount and Noussair Mazraoui were substituted against Man City due to physical problems, with the England midfielder guaranteed to miss Thursday. Mazraoui will be valued closer to the start.

Luke Shaw is also out with a hamstring injury, but veteran defender Jonny Evans could return to the squad after missing out since Amorim's first game in charge.

Man Utd predicted formation against Tottenham (3-4-2-1): Onana; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez; Dalot, Mainoo, Ugarte, Malacia; Amad, Fernandes; Hojlund.

Both sides have been unpredictable in recent weeks and neither will be completely confident despite impressive wins at the weekend. Man UtdSure, they lost 3-0 at home to Spurs earlier this season, but it was undoubtedly under a different regime.

Spurs tend to save their best for the so-called 'big teams' and have shown their ability to be absolutely thrilling when on song. Their attacking play can be unstoppable when the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Son Heung-min are linking up seamlessly – as evidenced by the 5-0 demolition of Southampton.

That attacking prowess could prove the difference between the two teams, with Tottenham's sheer desire for a trophy of any description possibly pushing them past a Man Utd side still finding their feet under Amorim.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Man Utd
