Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says it was an easy decision for Ruben Amorim to leave Marcus Rashford out of Manchester United's squad this weekend.
With Rashford underperforming, Carragher believes it's not really a big call for Amorim to leave the 27-year-old out of his squad, although he admits the club are struggling at the moment when it comes to offloading him.
Rashford himself came out and said publicly that he is ready for a new challenge, in an interview with Henry Winterbut it is conceivable that Manchester United may struggle to find buyers for a high-paid man who has been out of work for over a year.
“TENSION” situation with Ruben Amorim!
However, Carragher believes it is United's problem and not Amorim's, even though he has been told the Portuguese tactician may not have helped himself by questioning the player's attitude.
Amorim has made it clear that both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacha are out of the Manchester derby because he wants to see more of them in training, but Carragher insists the manager must be able to do so and rely on other key figures at the club , to deal with the rest.
Marcus Rashford is an easy decision, says Jamie Carragher
“I think the decision for Amorim was actually very simple and I think it's one of those where he looks very powerful and very strong,” Carragher said on It's called football.
“He sends a message, but he doesn't really lose anything in the team. I'm not sure Rashford improves the team in the current environment… so I think in a way it was almost like an open goal or an easy win for the manager.
Sometimes when we see players or managers make that decision and they take a big-name player, it sends a message and they think, 'You know what, I
going to take a chance” … “I'm going for it for the greater good, I'm sending a message to the team, I might lose something in this game today, but I'm willing to accept it and accept it.'
“I don't think you lose anything when Rashford doesn't play – he's not that good.”
He added: “It's Man United's problem, I don't think it's the manager's problem. He is a rookie in the door – the club must give him the means to bring Manchester United back.
“He didn't give Marcus Rashford a contract – that's Manchester United's problem and I imagine if he continues to show a bad attitude he'll say: 'I don't want him in my team'” – you have to deal with itand you have to basically pay him, whatever you have to do, you have to move on because he's not part of my plans and that's the club's problem, not the manager's.'
