Manager of Manchester United Ruben Amorim provided an update on Alejandro Garnacho after dropping the young Argentinian winger for a big game against Manchester City at the weekend.

Both Garnacha and Marcus Rashford were left out of the squad for the Manchester derby, failing to even make the bench as the Red Devils won 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Garnacho hasn't been at his best this season and Amorim seems to know that he “upset” the player by removing him from such an important game.

However, the Portuguese tactician will no doubt be hoping to get a reaction out of the youngster and it looks like it could be working quite well so far.

Watch below as journalist Fabrizio Romano quotes Amorim as saying that Garnacho is training well now, even if he's not too happy with his manager's decision…

Garnacho is a great talent in his day, but he's also perhaps someone who needs to be reminded from time to time that his place in the team is far from guaranteed.

The 20-year-old could have a big career at Old Trafford, but he needs to have the right mentality as well as the right natural ability.

Amorim could be a good manager for Garnacho as he doesn't seem afraid to make it clear how high he expects the standards to be.

MUFC fans will be hoping Garnacho can use his frustration at being left behind in a positive way going forward, while it can also work well to make the rest of the team well aware that someone is at risk of losing their spot.

Amorim hasn't had the easiest of starts since taking over as United manager, but there have been some signs of progress, particularly with that late win away to City.
