Former Everton player Don Hassan has hit back at Neal Maupay after the Toffees' dig.

Former Everton captain Don Hassan has hit back at Neal Maupay following a recent social media post of the striker being swiped in the toffee.

Hutchison, who is on loan at Marseille from Everton, was labeled a “failure” after the forward was targeted at the Merseyside club X in Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest.

Maupay, who has previously posted a Shawshank Redemption meme after leaving Goodison Park in the summer, said: “Whenever I have a bad day, I check the Everton score and smile.”

The 28-year-old is technically still Chelsea's property, but Marseille are obliged to agree a deal to play his final game for Everton in the summer.

Hutchison, who played for the Toffees in the Premier League between 1998 and 2000, said: “Everton are obviously on a free loan in his head.

“Think about how much he's failing every night and take it to the heart of the Everton fans that he can't play for such a great team.”

Hutchison was not the only one to publicly criticize Maupay for his position.

Former Everton supporter Tony Bellew shouted: “P***k!” In response to X, ex-Swansea City striker Lee Trundle, a Toffee fan, said: “You played for a team-mate. Have some respect. As a former player, talking like that is (you're) part of the problem.”

Maupay's move from Brighton to Everton in 2022 has not been disclosed. During his time at Goodison Park, he made 29 appearances and scored 1 goal.

He has been a regular at Marseille this season under Roberto De Zabi, scoring 2 goals and providing 4 assists in 12 appearances in all competitions.

De Xavi's side are currently second in Ligue 1, ten points behind leaders PSG.
