Manchester United have reportedly turned to Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen in their bid to address their woeful defensive displays of late.
United have achieved an all-time club record of 18 goals conceded in a single calendar month in December, having lost four games in all competitions and five of their last six in the Premier League alone.
To try and address their issues back, World of Sports COUNTRY united are keeping a close eye on Christensen, who could be allowed to leave Barcelona in 2025 after falling down the pecking order. The Dane's lack of injuries during the first half of the season was also key to the signing of Dani Olmos.
Perhaps working in Christensen's favor is his experience playing in the back three. It was his time at Chelsea, the heart of Antonio Conte's defence, that put him on the international stage and, although he has been used mainly in a defensive duo since then, his impact under the Italian has not been forgotten.
However, United could face an uphill battle to convince Christensen to leave Barcelona as he recently confessed that he still has no plans to leave Catalonia.
“I can only speak from the conversations I've had with the club and, so far, they've just said to make sure I'm ready and they're looking forward to getting back,” he said. Sports TV 2 as he prepares to return from injury.
“Of course (I'm staying at Barcelona). I approach it with the attitude that it will be difficult. (Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo) have done extremely well and it's up to me to knock them down. The ultimate goal is to come back and play as many matches as possible, but it will be difficult”.
