Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti could not contain his delight at becoming the most decorated coach in the history of the Spanish giants.
Ancelotti took his personal tally to 15 titles after seeing Real Madrid win one 3-0 victory over Mexican Pachuca on Wednesday night in the inaugural final of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. The Italian coach had overseen two triumphs in the competition's predecessor, the Club World Cup, and will be looking to add a 16th crown in extended version of the tour next summer.
The 15th title took the victorious veteran past the 14 tallied by the legendary Miguel Munoz in the 1960s. “There's a lot of them!” Ancelotti beamed after the match, unable to wipe a pained smile from his face. “I'm very pleased, very happy. It's a success.”
MadridThe smiling boss added: “It is something very important. We ended this 2024 in a spectacular way… more could not be done. But, as always at Real Madrid, we are now thinking about 2025.”
The reigning Spanish and European champions have not enjoyed an entirely successful season. after adding the UEFA Super Cup in the bloated cabinet in August, Madrid have struggled to be at their best flowing level since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe. or spread of injuries for key players across the squad has not helped the club's quest for silverware.
“Looking back and seeing that I've won so much, for so many years, makes me happy,” said the series champion. “I'm happy. But always keeping in mind what Real Madrid is. A club that requires spectacular concentration. Go on. More.”
When asked about his favorite of his 15 titles, Ancelotti reluctantly chose two Champions League triumphs: “It's hard to say, but 'La Decima' (in 2014) was special for me and for Madrid. Also the victory in the Champions League in Paris (in 2022). If I have to choose, it was these two.”
Ancelotti is the only manager to ever win the premier league title in all five of Europe's top leagues. However, his two spells in the Spanish capital have been his most successful. “Winning titles at Real Madrid is easier than in other countries,” admitted Ancelotti, “you have a fantastic club, a fan base that pushes you and the team has the best players in the world.”
