Real Madrid line up second offer for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid have not given up on their pursuit of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and are thinking for a second. Offers for the defender, according to multiple reports.

Alexander-Arnold, like his Liverpool team-mates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, will be out of contract at the end of June 2025. Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of the 26-year-old but were expected to become a free agent in the summer before signing the highly-rated defender.

However, on the first day of the January transfer window, the news broke that Real Madrid approached Liverpool about a winter move for Alexander-Arnold. Initial discussions were quickly quashed by Premier League chiefs, but that resolve could be tested by another bid.

The Times claim that Real Madrid would be willing to part with £20m to secure a player who would not have a transfer fee in six months. Spanish edition neither suggest the La Liga champions will invest no more than £12.4m (€15m). Both reports agree that manager Carlo Ancelotti is the driving force behind a fast-track deal for the full-back.

Real Madrid lost the first right defender Dani Carvajal to a season-ending ACL injury in October. Former veteran winger Lucas Vazquez has been thrust into the starting line-up as a tough substitute. Midfielder Federico Valverde has also carefully inserted himself into the back line.

The European champions are also without centre-back Eder Militao for the remainder of the season and are still awaiting The highly anticipated return of David Alaba.

Madrid's needs will not be a concern Liverpool. The Reds have their ambitions for domestic and continental success this season after an excellent start to the campaign under Arne Slot. The Merseyside outfit are still negotiating with Alexander-Arnold over a new contract, but even if they are destined to lose him, there is very little chance it will be this month.
