Novak Djokovic shares his feelings about Nick Kyrgios after his opening doubles win in Brisbane

Novak Djokovic has shared his feelings about teaming up with Nick Kyrgios for the doubles at the 2025 Brisbane International. Both players will also compete in singles at the ATP 250 tournament.

Djokovic and Kyrgios hit the court on Monday, December 30, marking the former's first match in 2025 and the latter's return in 18 months. The pair received a doubles wild card and faced Andreas Miles and Alexander Erler in a thrilling match that lasted 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8 in an hour and 48 minutes.

After the win, Djokovic described playing alongside Kyrgios as a “pleasure” during an on-court interview that wowed the crowd and admitted he had mostly followed the Aussie's lead throughout the match.

“I want to thank Nick for playing. He said the other day that it should be a pleasure to play with him. And so it is. It's nice,” said the Serb.

“I'm excited to share the court with him on my way back. I haven't had many doubles matches in the last 5 years. Whatever Nick was saying, I was actually following him,” he said.

Djokovic's comments came in response to what Kyrgios had said before the pair's campaign in Brisbane, when the Aussie told the media:

“I mean everyone thinks it's a pleasure to play with him, it's actually a pleasure to play with me, let's be real.”

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios will face Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus in the second round of doubles at the 2025 Brisbane International. Mektic and Venera have received a bye and will start their campaigns on December 31.

Djokovic and Kyrgios will also begin their singles campaigns tomorrow, with Serbia facing Rinki Hijikata and Aussie Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard. After their work in Brisbane, both will head to Melbourne for the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.

Serbia is aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam at the first Major of the year, where she is looking to break Margaret Court's record. With the support of tennis analysts including Serena Williams' former coach Rennae Stubbs, she is set to make history.

His Brisbane arrival also caused a stir as he carried a Pokemon-inspired Pikachu backpack, leaving fans to speculate about the cryptic message surrounding his Major number.
