Day 1 of Fifth Test between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground saw a moment of genius from Australia's star player Steve Smithwho caught fish in wonder to chase India around Nitish Reddy. In 57 years, Scott Boland delivered a slightly length ball outside off, and tested Reddy on the edge. Standing at second slip, Smith dived to his right hand and scooped up the ball with finesse, making the dismissal look like a textbook drill. Reddy's dismissal for a golden duck fueled Boland's fire and left India struggling.

Smith's joy after Reddy's dismissal came with a playful dig at the umpire, referring to what had already happened on the day, as in the eighth over added drama to India's early innings. Boland's delivery, a back-of-length ball that bounced, caught the edge of Kohli as he pushed forward. The ball was low, and Smith looked to have picked it up at gully.

However, a closer inspection by the third umpire revealed slight contact with the ground, leading to a “no out” decision. The event created excitement for both teams and fueled the electric atmosphere at the SCG. After catching Reddy's catch, Smith jokingly commented that this one was “pure and foreign,” adding interest to a high-pressure game.
