“You doubt his all-time greatness”

Former India all-rounder Sanjay Manjrekar has slammed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their back-to-back failures in BGT 2024-25. Reacting to their dismissal on day 5 of the Boxing Day Test, Manjrekar had this to say KohliWith Rohit playing an unforgiving knock, his all-time greatness could have been doubted.

Team India cruised to Australia by 184 runs in Melbourne in the fourth Test of the five-match series on Monday, December 30. Chasing 340, the visitors were bowled out for 155 in 79.1 overs. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo after India's disappointing batting effort, Manjrekar He questioned the batting selection of both India's senior players. He commented:

“Rohit Sharma, the knock he played after playing so well, I don't think there's any excuse for that. It has to be seen as a mistake. When Virat Kohli keeps coming out like this, you have doubts about everything about him… the magnitude of the times because he's a bit over happens.”

After India lost three wickets for 33 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal (84) and Rishabh Pant (30) lifted the visitors with a fourth stand of 88. However, he miscued a last-ditch effort to off-spinner Travis Head. While Pant came in for a lot of criticism for his stroke selection, Manjrekar wondered if India they were trying from outside to chase the target. The 59-year-old specialist said:

“As for Pant, I wonder if India had so many wickets in the last session, was there any talk. Rohit Sharma hinted at that in the press conference. With the wickets in hand, they thought they could do it. Try one with Pant there and it will all happen. see if he can – there could be a miraculous recovery, if not, they could draw.”

India struck after Pant's performance as they went from 121-4 to 155. For Australia, skipper Cummins and pacer Scott Boland took three wickets each, while off-spinner Nathan Lyon took two.
