Former Indian national cricket team player Navjot Singh Sidhu was disappointed that Rohit Sharma was dropped from the playing XI in the ongoing Test match against the Australian national cricket team. He said it was a blunder and saw this happening for the first time in the history of Indian cricket.
In what was a massive moment, Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was left out of the playing XI for the Sydney Test. The opening batsman was replaced by Shubman Gill, who was dropped from the XI for the last game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne.
Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that Rohit Sharma was rested for the team
It was learned and even captain Jasprit Bumrah mentioned that Rohit Sharma was rested for the team. It all comes after the Indian national cricket team captain failed to develop with the bat in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, both in the middle order and the opening.
This decision shocked many, the captain who did not play the match invited much debate. In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah leads the team but the batting woes at the top continued as the top order failed to get going and the Indian National Cricket Team lost early wickets and came under massive pressure.
It's bizarre, it's strange, simply because this has happened for the first time in the history of Indian cricket – Navjot Singh Sidhu on Rohit Sharma's snub
Navjot Singh Sidhu said leaving out Rohit Sharma was a strange decision. He pointed out that if he had to drop him then he shouldn't have been made captain at all. He added that the sitting commander is sending the wrong message. Taking to his Twitter account, he explained:
“It's bizarre, it's strange, simply because this is the first time in the history of Indian cricket, that a captain is sitting out. Or you shouldn't have made him captain, but if he's a captain and a great player who has done it.lots of service to indian cricket then whether his form is bad or not it doesn't matter.
“The captain doesn't have an option to quit for the sake of the team. It sends the wrong signals. So I feel that whether you've made him sit out or you've given him an option, the management can't give the captain the option. And the captain, who has made a team, who instilled faith, who played the role of a father figure, who earned respect”.
Navjot Singh Sidhu added that the team captain never abandons the ship. While calling Rohit Sharma a respectable person, he said it was a very wrong call. He elaborated:
“I think a captain never disconnects from his ship, even if it is a sinking ship. And this is a very respectable and respectable person. Bhai, this is a wrong decision.”
Navjot Singh Sidhu shared the video with the caption saying that he has seen greats of the game who were captains playing despite failing for years. He pointed out that Rohit Sharma deserves more respect from the team management. He said:
“A captain should not be left in the middle nor should he be given the option to quit… it sends wrong signals… We have seen captains like Mark Taylor, Azharuddin etc. persisting as captain for a long time for a year, despite his poor form. Rohit Sharma deserved more respect and faith from the management… Bizarre because it happened for the first time in the history of Indian cricket… A blunder – for a fallen lighthouse is more dangerous than a reef!”
