Vinicius Junior has apologized following his red card in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Valencia on Friday night.
The Brazilian striker received his marching orders on 11 minutes to push Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski with his side 1-0 down and reeling from Jude Bellingham's missed penalty early in the second half.
Just when it seemed Madrid were down and out, Luka Modric leveling matters in the 85th minute, before Bellingham made amends with a 95th-minute winner to send Los Blancos into the Super Cup final.
Now able to celebrate the win, Vinicius took to social media to write: “Sorry and thanks to the team!”
Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was unhappy with the dismissal and confirmed after the match that the club will appeal, arguing that Vinicius had been provoked by Dimitrievski.
“We thought it wasn't one red card, but two yellows,” Ancelotti said. “We will appeal, I don't think there will be a sanction for him, we think it was not a red card.
“It was a touch from Dimitrievski and then a push from Vini. I think it was solved with two yellow cards. Vini suffered and I don't mean trapped. There are days when things go well for him and other times a little less so.
SIGN The Spanish Football Federation has already accepted that Vinicius was provoked and is planning to issue a two-match ban, rather than the traditional four-match suspension that comes with typical acts of violent behaviour.
