Everton confirms acquisition of Friedkin Group

Everton have confirmed that the Friedkin Group (TFG) has finalized the takeover of the club from Farhad Moshiri.

Moshiri first put Everton up for sale in January 2023 and the long and arduous process has seen a number of twists and turns. An agreement was reached with 777 Partners in September of that year, but the American group failed to finalize their acquisition and the deal fell through in June 2024.

TFG, led by Roma owner Dan Friedkin, then began talks with Moshiri but was initially withdrawn after failing to reach a deal, only to return to the table in September to finally reach an agreement to buy Everton which reports suggest is worth around £400m.

The Premier League confirmed its purchase of a 98.8% stake in TFG on Thursday, ending the saga.

“I truly believe that the transaction with The Friedkin Group is the best outcome for the club and its future success,” Moshiri said in a statement.

“It has been a huge team effort to get to this stage and I would like to personally thank my Board colleagues John Spellman and Colin Chong and the entire senior management team including Katie, James, Richard and of course Kevin and Sean for their great commitment to the Club.

“Despite a challenging geopolitical backdrop, a significant amount has been achieved over the past two years including delivering a new sports department, stabilizing our finances and handing over our iconic new stadium. I now hand it over to new owners with confidence in perspective for the club and that our incredible fans will see the success on the pitch that they fully deserve.”
