Australian national cricket team captain Pat Cummins has spoken about his availability for the upcoming Test series against the Sri Lankan national cricket team. He said he would struggle to go there because of family commitments.

Pat Cummins leads from the front in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking Australia to the final of the ICC World Test Championship

Cummins led from the front as he was all over the Indian national cricket team's batsmen throughout the series. The Australia national cricket team captain has picked 25 wickets in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and has also made valuable contributions with the bat for his team.

Cummins, with his leadership, also took the Australian National Cricket Team to the final of the ICC World Test Championship. This was the second time under him that the team reached the final, having won the title in 2023 by defeating the Indian national cricket team in the final.

Australia's next Test assignment will be against Sri Lanka, but the series won't be of much importance with Pat Cummins and his team having already reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

As for Sri Lanka, we will wait and see – Pat Cummins

Cummins, who will become a father for the second time, said he would most likely miss the series due to the birth of his child, saying he wanted to be with his wife. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, we will wait and see. Becky is expecting right now, so we'll play it by ear. But most likely, I might struggle to get there. They (partners) sacrifice a lot… so sharing moments like today with them makes it even more special.”

Once this Test match is over, going back to being a full-time father and husband is (and is) even better fun than being a Test captain – Pat Cummins

Cummins also talked about the planning and success that happens within the team, saying they always talk about plans. He also pointed out that now they have won the series, it is time for him to do his family duties. He added:

“You always talk about it (a succession plan). Obviously we have two vice-captains in the team, we had three debutants in this series. You're always balancing the here and now… these are conversations we always have.

“Once this Test match is over, I'm going back to being a full-time father and husband (and) enjoy it even more than being a Test captain. I love it and feel very lucky.”

There have been various reports claiming that in the absence of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith will lead the Sri Lankan team. The batsman did the same job during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India when Cummins had to return home.
