Liverpool v Manchester United is always a pulse-pounding game.
For supporters of the two clubs, it's arguably the biggest game of their respective calendars – yes, bigger than the Merseyside and Manchester derbies in footballing terms – and for the neutral it's a game that always gets you on the edge of your seat.
The first installment of 2025 certainly lived up to the billing, right from the moment the skies decided to dump a mountain of snow on the Northwest. There was travel chaos aplenty and some doubt as to whether the game would actually go ahead – luckily for everyone watching in person, at home and around the world, it did.
Here's how the eventful 90 minutes unfolded and some in the world of social media…

Liverpool's amazing start to the season owes a lot to the performances of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Virgil va… ok, basically everyone who has donned the club's famous red.
One player the club have really missed in recent weeks, despite maintaining their strong performances on the pitch, is centre-back Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman has developed a really strong and effective partnership with Virgil van Dijk, with many seeing him as the catalyst for all the big things that happen further down the pitch.
So it was no surprise that when the news broke that he would be starting, Konate's name was the toast of X.
Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister have been consistently excellent for Liverpool, really flourishing under Arne Slott, but it is Ryan Gravenberch who has arguably been the best of the midfield group.
The Dutchman was a peripheral figure under Jurgen Klopp, leading many to speculate that his Liverpool career would go nowhere, but his incredible composure on the ball has impressed throughout the 2024/25 season.
Against United, Gravenberch continued his merry way, putting in another superb performance against the duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte – who themselves were far better than they have been at any point this season.
The first 45 minutes saw that of Ruben Amorim united put in a brilliant shift – stifling Liverpool's attacking play by creating their own problems.
The Reds had chances, yes, with Gakpo hitting just wide after being played in at the back, but United had more of the ball and looked very capable of capitalizing on a bad day at the back office for Trent Alexander -Arnold.
Most of their threat came from the left and they should have taken the lead in the first half through Rasmus Hojlund, but the Dane's rather weak effort was easily deflected away by Alisson.
Seven minutes into the second half, an unlikely hero showed Hojlund how to…
Slot's Liverpool haven't had it all their own way this season, struggling to break teams down at times. But with the amount of quality they possess, it's never a surprise when they find a way back thanks to individual quality.
Mac Allister's brilliant pass found Gakpo and the Dutchman once again showed his class to curl a superb effort past Andre Onana.
Wherever Matthijs de Ligt goes, handballs tend to follow him.
Unfortunately, this was proven again as a lost arm allowed Mohamed Salah the opportunity to strike from the penalty spot…
Would Salah keep his cool and maintain his excellent goalscoring record against Manchester United?
You probably know the answer to this question…
While Salah is inevitable for LiverpoolUnited fans are starting to feel the same way about Amad Diallo in the big games.
The Ivorian famously scored the winning goal as United beat Liverpool 4-3 in last season's FA Cup and his late winner helped the Red Devils secure a famous comeback victory over Manchester City just a few weeks ago .
So when Amad got his chance after Alejandro Garnacho made the most of the space on the left, there was only going to be one result…
The stats will tell you that the game was pretty even – Liverpool scored 19 shots to 13, six on target compared to United's four.
of Premier League The leaders' xG was also vastly superior to United's, but it could have been Amorim's side who walked away with all three points had Harry Maguire not fired home from 12 yards and seconds remaining in the box.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee appeared to be almost on the back of Andy Robertson, but his cut for Maguire was not the greatest as he collided with the England defender. As a result, he couldn't control his efforts, firing high over the bar as the X users clenched their collective cheeks.
A cracking game and one that will take Amorim a long way.
