Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has indicated he wants to leave the franchise after they failed to reach the NFL playoffs.
Hill did not play in the final quarter of a 32-20 loss to the New York Jets on the final weekend of the regular season.
The 30-year-old missed the postseason for the first time in his career and told reporters, “For me, I just have to do what's best for me and my family.
“If it's here or wherever it is. I just opened that door for myself… I'm out. It was great to play here, but at the end of the day, I have to do what's best for my career.
“I'm too much of a competitor to just be there.”
Hill has two years left on the extension he originally signed in 2022.
The Georgia native posted the worst season of his spell with the Dolphins in 2024, finishing with 959 yards and six touchdowns.
He had just two catches against the Jets, his third game of the season with two or fewer catches.
This disappointing campaign is in stark contrast to his first games with the team, when he secured at least 1,700 yards and 119 catches in 2022 and 2023.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said after the Jets game that Hill's absence was not injury-related, adding that he did not want to discuss his player's comments until he spoke with him.
“It would be unfair for me to connect emotions with emotions,” McDaniel said.
“Right after the game when your season is over, when you're fighting to get it extended and with full confidence that you have the ability to make it happen, I'm not going to be too quick to judge something that's a little cloudy in the heat of the moment for a number of reasons.”
