Virgil van Dijk offered to Real Madrid on a free transfer


Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk's representatives have reportedly offered the Dutchman's services to Real Madrid as he nears the end of his contract at Anfield.

Now in the final six months of his deal, Van Dijk is one of three high-profile players causing major concern for Liverpool as their contracts wind down. Mohamed Salah continues to put immense public pressure on the Redswhile right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is Real Madrid's main summer target tRANSFER window.

According to reliefMadrid were also given the chance to sign Van Dijk. The 33-year-old's agents have reportedly made contact to discuss a massive free transfer, aware that Madrid are looking to strengthen in defence.

Van Dijk was reportedly ready to go to the Santiago Bernabeu when the offer was made, but Madrid officials ultimately rejected the proposal.

While obviously aware of Van Dijk's quality, Madrid felt the Dutchman was too old for their planspreferring instead to pursue a younger quarterback capable of leading the team for the next decade.

It is unclear when this proposal was made. Van Dijk was publicly questioned about a move to Madrid when they faced his Liverpool sideways in November 2024, but it was quickly to clear the speculation.

Now, Liverpool are believed to be growing in confidence about their chances of securing Van Dijk's future with a new contract, but doubts remain over Alexander-Arnold after Madrid tried to speed up their plans with a January offer for English.
