There have been mixed signals when it comes to Araujo's future, with a report recently claiming that there has been there are fears the defender could leave on a free transfer. However, this latest report says there is optimism that an extension will be reached soon.

Araujo is understood to want to stay at Barcelona and will be given a pay rise if he chooses to extend his deal.

As for De Jong, the Dutch midfielder has already let the offer of an extension, which included a salary deferral, expire. Barcelona have made it clear that he will not be given a pay rise and must accept a deal that will limit the impact of his current salary on the club's finances.

The biggest concern for Barcelona is losing each player for free. Both De Jong and Araujo could generate significant transfer fees and club officials have warned the pair will not be given forever to make a decision on their futures.
