The 26th game a Big Bash League 2024-25 he saw Melbourne Renegades on the edge of Perth Scorchers and 4 wickets in a nail-biting finish at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Skipper Why Sutherland and Tom Rogers showed exceptional performances, leading the Renegades to a comfortable victory.
Perth Scorchers have struggled to post much in the competition
After winning the toss, the Melbourne Renegades elected to bowl first, putting the Scorchers under early pressure. Perth Scorchers managed 147/8 in their 20 overs. The leaders countered the bowling attack of the Renegades, by themselves Aaron Hardie managing a steady 34 off 34 balls with three boundaries. The true standout of the Scorchers was Ashton Agarwho came in as the lowest batsman and smashed an unbeaten 51 off 30 balls, including one six and one long six.
Adam Zampa was the pick of the Renegades bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/27 in his four overs. Sutherland and Rogers chipped in with two wickets each, right Kane Richardson said one. Their combined efforts kept the Scorchers short.
Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers shine in the chase
The Melbourne Renegades chase began to falter, with the Scorchers running Lance Morris, Jason Behrendorffand Jhye Richardson hit early. The Renegades found themselves in trouble, losing wickets regularly. However, Sutherland lifted the innings with the captain's knock of 70 runs off 45 balls, which included four fours and three sixes. His aggressive but calculated approach kept the Renegades in the hunt. Rogers played a vital role in the lower order, scoring a match-winning 49 off 31 balls, with four fours and three sixes and was not out. Together, Sutherland and Rogers ensured the Renegades crossed the finish line with just four wickets to spare, scoring 150/6 in 19.4 overs.
The Scorchers bowlers fought bravely to protect the underdogs. Morris, Behrendorff, and Jhye each picked up two wickets, with Morris being the money favorite. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome the genius of Sutherland and Rogers. For his brilliant all-round performance, which included two wickets and a crucial 49-run knock, Rogers was adjudged Player of the Match. His contributions with bat and ball were crucial to the Renegades' success, keeping their campaign alive in the 2024-25 Big Bash League.
