Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been questioned about whether the Red Devils need bigger players in certain situations. They haven't been the most comfortable dealing with corners this season, conceding nine times from such situations in the Premier League.
Part of the problem may be that one of the club's central defenders is Lisandro Marinez, who stands at 5'9. In this regard, Amorim told reporters (via GOAL):
“You see every corner is an opportunity nowadays. Sometimes you forget the little guys and the talented guys and you put 11 guys in corners or free kicks. If you can do things in the box.”
“But those are the rules and we can't complain about it. We have to do the same and focus on trying to do the same to the opponent. So that's my goal right now.”
On whether the club needs to add bigger players, Amorim added:
“No. I mean, if kits are going to be that important, you can do anything. We'll have to learn that, and even do the same with the little guy.”
“We have to just copy and do the same without trying to change the rules. We have to use the rules to score (the same) goals in the set pieces.”
“Manchester United”, which is currently in the 14th place in the Premier League table, should find a solution to these problems soon.
Manchester United defender could captain Newcastle United, says Ruben Amorim
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire He could take over the captaincy for the Red Devils' clash against Newcastle United on Monday (December 30).
Regular skipper Bruno Fernandes was suspended for the match after receiving a red card in the 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day. Speaking to reporters, Amorim (via GOAL):
“You'll have to wait and see about the captain. He's doing really well. He's focused on the job, not what people say. He has no excuses – even when he's having a tough time. He's a role model in that respect. He's there to help the team and trying to do that.”
Maguire has started his side's last three Premier League games and is likely to do so on Monday. He is expected to play in the middle of the back three at Manchester United.
