of Pakistan Cricket The Board (PCB) has announced a new date for 2025 Pakistan Super League draft (PSL). The event was originally scheduled for January 11 in Gwadar, Balochistan. However, it will now take place on January 13 at Lahore Fort's Huzoori Bagh.
Why the change in PSL draft date?
The PCB cited weather forecasts as the main reason for postponing the draft by two days. The move was made to give the production team and broadcasters enough time to get everything ready for the event. It is expected to rain in Gwadar on January 11.
A rehearsal for the draft ceremony will take place on January 12, allowing PSL management to iron out any logistical hurdles ahead of the main event.
PCB Official Statement
The PCB issued a press release confirming the rescheduled date and venue of the draft. “The HBL PSL Players Draft has been rescheduled and will now take place on January 13 at Huzoori Bagh, Lahore Fort,” the statement said. The board also mentioned that Gwadar will remain a key venue in the HBL PSL 2025 Trophy Tournament scheduled for March.
The event will be broadcast live from 12:30 PKT on January 13, with all six franchises assembling their squads for the much-anticipated tenth edition of the league.
Qadir Khawaja confirms the news
The news was announced by the well-known journalist Qadir Khawaja on social networks, confirming the postponement. He shared that PSL management is keen to ensure a smooth and well-organized draft process.
“Exclusive: Pakistan Super League Season 10 Draft Date Changed,” Khawaja tweeted on X (formerly Twitter). The ceremony will now take place in Lahore on January 13. The test will be held on January 12. The change in date was due to the forecast of rain in Gwadar. PSL management wants the event to run efficiently.”
Top Players Register for PSL Draft
This year's PSL draft will feature several high-profile international names, including former Australian opener David Warner, retired New Zealand pacer Tim Southee and Bangladeshi stars Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. More than 80 out-of-state players have registered for the draft.
Interestingly, the PSL 2025 season will run parallel to the Indian Premier League (IPL), offering the PCB a chance to tie up with international stars that remained unsold in the IPL Mega Auction 2024. While the wage bill could deter some players, others may be tempted to join the PSL for the chance to play in front of passionate crowds.
