Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been suspended for two matches for the red card in the recent win over Valencia.
Vinicius was show a straight red for pushing Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski and was facing a ban of at least four matches for violent conduct, although it was soon assumed the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) would offer a shorter sentence amid claims Vinicius was provoked.
The RFEF have now confirmed that Vinicius has been handed a two-match ban for what was deemed “violent behaviour” rather than an act of aggression.
Such a suspension will miss Vinicius League games against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid, but he will be free to face Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Mallorca on Thursday.
Despite avoiding the harshest sanction, NOTE Real Madrid still plans to appeal the decision, believing that Vinicius should not have been sent off in the first place for provoking Dimitrievski.
Chiringuito claim that the Valencia goalkeeper began taunting Vinicius early in the second half because he missed Madrid's penalty, which was ultimately missed by Jude Bellinghamwith Dimitrievski allegedly continuing to try and bully Vinicius as the clock ticked down.
Madrid is also expected to argue that Vinicius was the target of racist abuse from the crowd in the immediate run-up to his clash with Dimitrievski.
