A Spanish government spokesman has denied claims that a temporary registration has been granted to Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo.
Olmo, along with midfielder Pau Victor, saw his La Liga registration expire on December 31 and fell foul of La Liga Rules highlighted players cannot obtain a second license with any club in a single season.
With potential options starting to disappear, Barcelona took their case to the Spanish government and the Supreme Council of Sports (CSD) and reports emerged on Tuesday claiming they had been given permission to temporarily re-register Olmo and Victor while the case theirs is being reviewed.
However, government spokeswoman Pilar Alegria has now denied granting the provisional registrations, insisting that the CSD has yet to make a decision.
“We are studying it,” Alegria said RNE. “Actually, I have already seen some news, some information, that it is considered a done deal. And the truth is that at this time we are still studying the request sent to us through FC Barcelona.
“Because apart from that, we will have to ask for objections from both La Liga and the RFEF so that we can give an answer. We also have a deadline, we are talking about a request of 52 pages that also had more than 60 documents attached, so it is not a tiring job at all.
“Of course, we will respond as soon as possible.
Barcelona I hope Olmo and Victor get temporary registrations that will allow them to play in La Liga while the CSD looks into their case.
If such permission is granted, Barcelona will still need to succeed in winning their court case to keep Olmo and Victor registered for the remainder of the season, with any temporary registration easily revoked if Barcelona are unsuccessful.
