West Ham were sacked as manager after 20 Premier League games and Potter was the favourite.

West Ham have sacked manager Julen Lopetegui after losing nine and winning six of their first 20 Premier League games of the season.

The Hammers had net spending of £85.2m in the summer but are 14th after Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Manchester City, seven points above the relegation zone.

“The first half of the 2024/25 season is not in line with the club's ambitions,” West Ham said in a statement, adding that they had worked to meet their “objectives”.

A 5-0 defeat to Liverpool on 29 December extended their poor run of home form to three consecutive defeats at the London Stadium and one win in five.

Next West Ham manager: Graham Porter.

Graham Potter is widely expected to succeed Lopetegui. BBC Sport Chelsea The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City managers have reportedly held talks about promotion on a short-term basis.

Assistant coach Pablo Sanz; Oscar Caro, Head of Performance; Analyst Juan Vicente Peinado; Fitness coach Borja De Alba and technical coach Edu Rubio have also left West Ham.

The Hammers will play a Premier League match at home to Fulham on January 14 at 7:30 p.m.
