Liverpool's preparations for the FA Cup have been interrupted by snowy weather

Liverpool's preparations for Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against Accrington Stanley have been interrupted by the wintry weather that has hit north-west England.

The Reds were in action at Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham Hotspur North London on Wednesday night and hopped on what was hoped would be a quick return flight.

The plan was for the players and staff to arrive home that night, rather than stay in the capital or travel by road and leave in the early hours of Thursday.

But conditions ensured it was not safe to land at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool. Instead, the flight ended up being diverted to Birmingham, with the party ground moved back to Merseyside. So it actually ended in the early hours when the players and staff managed to get home.

The Times has reported that, in light of the travel chaos, Liverpool decided to cancel Thursday's scheduled training session, which was largely expected to be a warm-up. Arne Slot's team will pick things up again on Friday and hope there is no lasting effect from the layoff.

Things haven't been clear cut for Accrington either, forced to temporarily abandon their training ground this week due to the weather and host sessions at an indoor facility.

Slott went with a largely full-strength line-up against Tottenham, which made the 1-0 defeat to the Premier League leaders a little surprising given the Premier League's contrasting form this season. But the Slot is now expected to spin a lot for FA Cup draw against a League Two opponent.

Accrington's league form has taken an upturn in 2025, winning both league games since the start of the calendar year to climb to 19th in the table. They have knocked out sixth-tier side Rushall Olympic and fellow League Two side Swindon Town from the FA Cup to reach this stage.
