While the summer window offers teams the opportunity to strategize, plan and negotiate fiercely, the winter market awaits haste, uncertainty and desperation. It is not the best time to reach a deal, but often there is no other alternative.

The window is well underway and a number of signings have been secured across Europe and beyond, with some big names set to move for cut-price deals as their contracts run out.

But when does the January transfer window chime for the last time? Let's take a closer look.

The most proactive teams already have strengthened their teams during the winter period, with the January market opening on 1 January 2025 in most of Europe.

The Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 all opened their doors on New Year's Day, although the Eredivisie, Primeira Liga and La Liga began trading on 2 January.

Any deal agreed before the opening of the January window will now be formalized, while clubs are also able to register new signings. Players within the last six months of their contracts can agree terms with other clubs, with Premier League talent can only sign pre-contracts with foreign teams.

Logic would suggest that the January transfer window would close at the end of the month, but when have logic and football ever been friends?

In the UK, France, Germany and Spain, the winter market closes on Monday 3 February. The exact closing time of each window varies, however, with English football business finishing at 23:00 GMT.

Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands close the day after tomorrow on Tuesday 4 February, while the Turkish market closes just one week later on Tuesday 11 February.
