Rodrigo Bentancur will undergo standard concussion protocol before returning to the Tottenham Hotspur squad, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.
The representative of Uruguay left on a stretcher in the first steps of the match 1-0 win after lying motionless on the ground after a diving header, with replays later shown showing Bentancur hit his head on the pitch as he landed.
The fans were immediately worried about Bentancuri, but the midfielder soon moved to ease concerns with a social media post from the hospital insisting that everything was fine.
Postecoglou confirmed in his Friday press conference that Bentancur was diagnosed with a simple concussion, the protocol for which will keep him out for two weeks.
“Good news, thankfully,” Postecoglou began. “He was in the hospital, obviously, and he did all the tests to check, make sure everything was OK. He's back home and he's fine.
“He's feeling good. We're obviously going to follow the protocols now. I think it's a couple of weeks where you have to make sure everything's OK. But thankfully it looks like a shock, but nothing more than that.
“It was worrying, you saw especially Pedro (Porro), he was the first one there and he knew it was a worrying situation. I thought the guys handled it well and our medical team handled it well and, as I say, thankfully. , all good .”
Two weeks on the sidelines will see Bentancur miss out on Sunday FA Cup the clash with Tamworth and the north London derby against Arsenal three days later. His final absence should come at Everton next weekend, ahead of a possible return Spurs in the Europa League against Hoffenheim on Thursday 23 January.
