Sanjay Bangar praises Sanju Samson, compares him to Yuvraj Singh

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has heaped praise on Sanju Samson for his outstanding performances in T20Is last year. After years of inconsistency and limited chances, Samson made a strong comeback, becoming a key player in India's T20 World Cup-winning side and delivering match-winning knocks in the bilateral series against Bangladesh and South Africa.

Speaking to Star Sports, Bangar highlighted how Samson's run of games has finally allowed him to showcase his potential.

Samson gets his moment

Bangar emphasized that continued opportunities have been crucial to Samson's recent success.

“Happy to see the kind of success he's currently blessed with. He has been there for a long time. It's just that he has the right opportunities and a good streak of opportunities because every at-bat, if he plays three or four games in a row, it frees him up a little bit,” Bangar said.

Samson, who has often batted lower down the order in his early career, flourished after being promoted to open the innings. He smashed centuries against Bangladesh and South Africa, making his case stronger for regular inclusion.

The six-hitting prowess makes Yuvraj's comparison

Bangar also drew a parallel between Samson and the legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singhespecially when it comes to being able to hit sixes.

“Having reached the order, he does not have to worry about the situation. The field is raised and he is a six-striker. He can hit sixes with ease. After Yuvraj Singh, if there is one batsman who can do this with such ease on a consistent basis, it has to be Sanju Samson. So just seeing him firing on all cylinders is a treat to watch,” Bangar noted.

Set Samson for returning to India

Samson is likely to be part of India's limited-overs squad for the upcoming series against England. The series will be India's first white-ball assignment since October last year and Samson is expected to play a crucial role.

With KL Rahul set to rest, Samson may also get a call-up to the ODI squad. His last appearance in an ODI came against South Africa in December 2023. With the Champions Trophy scheduled for February, Samson will be keen to make the most of his chances in the three-match ODI series.
