Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has confirmed he is fine after suffering a horrific facial injury during his side's 4-2 win over Monaco.
Donnarumma had to be substituted on just 22 minutes after a heavy clash with Monaco's Wilfried Singo, who caught the keeper squarely in the face with his sticks as he challenged for the ball.
The wound on Donnarumma's face was immediately visible and images showed him needing ten staples to his face in the dressing room.
Fortunately, despite the gruesome nature of Donnarumma's injury, it appears to have been little more than a flesh wound, as the bandaged stopper took to social media to post a photo with the caption: “Tutto bene”, which translates to ” Everything is fine.”
Singo, who was already on a booking at the time and somehow avoided a second yellow card for the incident, went to the PSG dressing room to apologize to Donnarumma after the match and posted the message of him on social networks.
“I want to apologize to Gianluigi Donnarumma”, wrote Singo. My gesture was obviously not intentional, but then I could see that he had a serious injury to his face. I wish you a good recovery”.
PSG are back in action on Sunday in the fifth round of the Coupe de France against Lens, with manager Luis Enrique set to provide a further update on Donnarumma's condition ahead of the game.
